Exploring the relationship between sleep and exercise, and how chiropractic care can improve your sleep

Date

The topics of sleep and exercise are very interrelated, and affect each other greatly. Often after a grueling workout, individuals tend to sleep more soundly and with better sleep quality. However, injuries and pain typically inhibit an individual’s ability to get a good night’s sleep. Ranging from nagging neck pain, to shoulder tightness, to a herniated disc, all of these injuries can negatively affect your quality of sleep. At Victory Rehab, we are trained to treat a wide range of injuries and areas where pain is commonly experienced, thus improving the quality of your nightly sleep.

HOW IMPORTANT IS SLEEP?

Healthy sleep patterns result in improved neurological function, decreases in inflammation, increases in daily energy, maintenance of a healthy weight, and staving off stress just to name a few of the many positive impacts. Placing a high priority on the importance of sleep can lead to not only a more productive life, but a healthier one as well.

HOW REGULAR EXERCISE IMPACTS SLEEP

Establishing a regular exercise pattern can lead to improved sleep for a variety of reasons. The National Sleep Foundation has suggested that “moderate intensity exercise can decrease the time required to fall asleep, as well as decrease the amount of times that individuals wake up throughout the night” (Physical Activity Impacts Overall Quality of Sleep, 2018). Exercise can serve as a good alternative to sleep-inducing drugs or medications, and has shown to be positively correlated with a good night’s sleep.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE AND IMPROVED SLEEP

Chiropractic adjustments often aid in improving the quality of one’s sleep. Time and time again our chiropractors have been able to relieve built up pain and tension, diminishing the pains that keep many individuals tossing and turning at night. At Victory Rehab, our combination of chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy will alleviate pain, leading to a better night’s sleep!
